Maharshi Kanada was ancient Indian scientist,sage and philosopher who founded the “Philosophical school of  Vaisesika” and authored the text Vaisesika Sutras . He pioneered atomic theory, described dimension, motion, chemical reactions of atoms between 600 and 200 BCE.

Vaishesika Sutras by “Kanada”(कणाद ) describe Laws of Motion & Concept of Atom 

Vaisheshika (वैशेषिक) is one of the six Hindu schools of philosophy (vedic systems) from Ancient India.

He theorized that Gurutva (Gravity) is responsible for the falling of objects on the Earth.

 First Law Of Motion :

वेगः निमित्तविशेषात कर्मणो जायते |

Translation : Change of motion is due to impressed force. 

Second Law Of Motion :

वेगः निमित्तापेक्षात कर्मणो जायते नियतदिक क्रियाप्रबन्धहेतु |

Translation : Change of motion is proportional to the impressed force and is in the direction of the force.

Third Law Of Motion :

वेगः संयोगविशेषविरोधी |

Translation : Action and reaction are equal and opposite.

Adi Shankaracharya who lived around 460 BCE, also wrote in his commentary on the Upanishads: 

“If the divinity of the earth would not pull down this body by supporting “apana,” this body would have floated anywhere in space.”

Speed of light

This is incredibly close to the information about the speed of light

तथा च स्मर्यते योजनानां सहस्त्रं द्वे द्वे शते द्वे च योजने एकेन निमिषार्धेन क्रममाण नमोऽस्तुते।। -सायण ऋग्वेद भाष्य (१.५ ० .४)

अर्थ- आधे निमेष में 2202 योजन का मार्गक्रमण करने वाले प्रकाश तुम्हें नमस्कार है ।

Meaning- [O light,] bow to you, you who traverse 2,202 yojanas in half a nimesha.. -Sage Sayana 14th AD

Nimisharda = half of a nimisha

In the vedas -

'Yojan' is a unit of - ‘Distance’ 

and 'Nimisha' is a unit of -‘Time’.'Arthasastra' defines A Yojan as being equal to 8,000 dhanus, which is equivalent to 9.09 miles

Means 1 Yojana = 8000 Dhanus = 9,09 miles

1 nimisha = 0.2112 seconds (The wink of an eye is equal to 0.2112 seconds.)

1/2 nimisha = 0.1056 secondsStart with Unit of Vedic Time - ‘Nimisha’

The Moksha Dharma Parva of Shanti Parva in Mahabharata describes Nimisha as follows:

1 nimisha = 0.2112 seconds (This is a recursive decimal. The wink of an eye is equal to 0.2112 seconds.)

1/2 nimisha = 0.1056 seconds15 Nimisha = 1 Kastha

30 Kashta = 1 Kala

30.3 Kala = 1 Muhurta

30 Muhurtas = 1 Diva-Ratri (Day-Night)

We know Day-Night is 24 hours

So we get 24 hours = 30 x 30.3 x 30 x 15 nimisha= 409050 nimisha

We know 1 hour = 60 x 60 = 3600 seconds10 ParamAnus = 1 Parasúkshma

10 Parasúkshmas = 1 Trasarenu

10 Trasarenus = 1 Mahírajas (particle of dust)

10 Mahírajas= 1 Bálágra (hair’s point)

10 Bálágra = 1 Likhsha

10 Likhsha= 1 Yuka

10 Yukas = 1 Yavodara (heart of barley)

10 Yavodaras = 1 Yava (barley grain of middle size)2,000 Dhanus = 1 Gavyuti (distance to which a cow’s call or lowing can be heard)= 12,000 feet or 3.65 km

4 Gavyutis = 4 X 3.65 = 14.6 km= = 9.07 miles = 1 Yojan 

Now we are at the final Part of Calculation of the 'Speed of Light' according to the Rig Ved👇🏼👇🏼

Afer getting these units of ‘Time’ and ‘Distance’ we can calculate what is the value of the speed of light in modern units based on the value given as 2202 yojanas in 1/2 nimisha

= 2,202 x 9.07 miles per 0.1056 sec.

= 19,972,14 miles per 0.1056 sec.

= 1,89,130.114 miles/sec.So as per the Rig Ved the speed of light is 189,130.114 miles/second.

And as per Modern Science the speed of light is 186,000 miles per second.

Which is very very close to it!
